SharePoint Online Hero Web Part
- In the SharePoint Online Hero Web part, a user can showcase a maximum of up to five different types of items like videos, images, SharePoint List, SharePoint Document Library, an external link, etc.
- SharePoint Online Hero web part is a visually attractive web part where we can grab the user’s attention to the most important content.
- By default, the SharePoint Online Hero web part will be added to the home page of the SharePoint Communication site.
- However, this Hero web part won’t be added to the SharePoint Online team site by default.

- Open a SharePoint page where you want to add a Hero web part and click on the Edit icon (top-right corner).

- Hover the mouse above or below the added web part, and click on a + icon (Add a new web part in column one).

- Search and select Hero web part under Text, media, and Content.

- Now, the Hero web part will be added to the SharePoint Online page as shown below:

Similarly, I will explain to you how to add a link to Hero web part in SharePoint Online.
The hero web part will allow you to add an image, document, and links to SharePoint Online. There are five tiles in the Hero Web Part, so we will add each item to each SharePoint Online Hero Web Part tile.
- On the SharePoint Hero web part, and now for the 1st tile, click on the Select link as shown below:

- Then it will open the next window, from where a user can select a link from different sources as mentioned below.
- Recent: You can select recently opened SharePoint documents, pages, images, etc…
- Stock images: Users can select a link from Microsoft stock images.
- Web search: Users can insert Bing images with a common license on the SharePoint Online page.
- OneDrive: You can also get an image link that is stored in OneDrive.
- Site: A user can also get an image link from our SharePoint site.
- Upload: You can also upload an image from your local device as well.
- From a link: A user can provide an image, document or page URL that wants to link to the hero web part.
Note:
In the SharePoint Hero web part, users can include a link to upload a video.However, videos cannot be displayed on the Hero web section.Users must click the link to be directed to the video’s source.

- Here, I was selecting From a link -> Provide a link to an external resource image you want to display.
- Click on Add.

- Now the link will be added to the 1st tile of a SharePoint Hero web part as shown below figure:

- Similarly, I have added links to other tiles from different sources. Now, the Hero web part will look like the below as shown in the image:

Configure a SharePoint Online Hero web part
In this section, I will show you how to edit a hero web part in SharePoint Online and edit with each tile.
- Using an edit web part

Using an edit web part:
- On a SharePoint Hero web part, Click on the edit icon.

- Then, the Hero property pane will display with Layout options and Layout.

- If we choose Tiles, we can select a maximum of 5 tiles. If we choose Three tiles, the SharePoint Online Hero web part looks like as shown below:

- Else, if we choose Five tiles, then the SharePoint Online Hero web part looks like this as shown below:

- Now, we will choose another layout option as Layers. We can select a maximum of 5 Layers in the SharePoint Online Hero Web part.

- If we choose Three Layer, the SharePoint Online Hero Web part looks like this as shown below:

- Else, if we choose Five Layers, the SharePoint Online Hero Web part looks like this as shown below:

Using an edit with each tile:
- On the SharePoint Hero web part, Click on the edit icon of each tile.

- Then, it will display a Property pane of the Hero web part that has 4 sections such as below:
- Link
- Background image
- Options
- And Accessibility

- In the property pane window, Expand Link -> User can provide a Title to the tile, and also can change the link.

- Click on a Background image; three radio button options will be there:
- Auto-selected image
- Custom image
- Color image
- Select a Custom Image from the options to change the image.

- Then, expand Options. Under this option, the user can add a call to action link to the largest tile in a hero web part.

- In the accessibility section, the user can give alternative text for the relevant image to the page.
