- I have created a Template in the Excel sheet (Details Template) based on the business scenario. By using this template, users can provide their details as per their requirements.
- Now, select a template (Ex: Details Template) from our local device to upload to the document library.

- Once the template (Details Template) is uploaded, see the document library where we will see it in the +New menu bar as shown below:

- Once open the Details Template, it will appear in the Excel sheet and where the user can provide the details as shown below:

Customize the SharePoint Online Document Library Template
Likewise, in this section, we will learn how to customize the SharePoint Online document library template. For this follow the below steps to customize the template such as:
- In the SharePoint Online document library (Company Documents) -> Select +New drop-down window -> Click on the Edit New menu like below:

- In the Edit New menu window, where we can get the all document library temples and here we make changes as per our requirements.

- If we want to uncheck or re-arrange the menu choices, just uncheck the boxes and drag the templates from up and down.
- Click on the Save button as shown below:

- Now, see the below picture that how we can get templates after the customization. So now, when users want to create a new document based on these templates.

Similarly, if we want to change one respective SharePoint Online document template, just follow the below steps:
- Open the Edit New menu window by using the above-mentioned steps. and select the ECB menu (…) of the document template (Document Template).
- Inside the ECB menu where we can find the following options like Move Up, Edit, Change content type, and also Delete as shown below:

- For example, if we want to delete the template (Document Template) -> Click on the Delete option and it will give a confirmation window -> Select the Delete option like below:

Limitations of the SharePoint Online Document Library Template
Here, we will discuss the limitations of the SharePoint Online document library templates. Follow the below-mentioned limitations such as:
- In SharePoint Online document library, we can’t find the option to Save the document library as a template. This option is only available in the SharePoint classic version.
- We can’t set a custom template for a SharePoint library by using Add an App feature, it is also only available in the SharePoint classic version. Now it is deprecated.
- Similarly, we can’t find an option like Upload a new document template under the Document section.
- You do not need to be a Site Owner to do the customization of the document templates. Site members also can edit the templates.
These are the most important limitations of the SharePoint Online document library templates.
