- This new feature adds the capability to pin shared document libraries to the Quick Access section in OneDrive. It also has a list of recently used shared libraries on the More Places page within the OneDrive account.
- Pinning a document library will add it to the top of the Quick Access section. We can also un-pin document libraries from the Quick Access section if they are not necessary to be pinned.
Add Pin and Quick access to SharePoint Online Document Library
In this section let us know how to add a Pin and quick access to SharePoint online document library. For this, follow the below process to add a pin and quick access to the SharePoint Document library such as :
- Go to the SharePoint Online document library where we need to add Pin to Quick Access. Here we are taking one of our lists i.e.,
- (EX: https://.sharepoint.com/sites/MercyHospitals/MercyInformationDocuments/Forms/AllItems.aspx).
- Click on three ellipses (…) on the command bar of the document library -> Select Pin to Quick access from the dialogue box.

- Then it will show the dialogue box with information that (Pinned 1 library to Quick access) as shown in the below screenshot:

NOTE: Changes (Pin to Quick access) made to the library will not be displayed in the SharePoint document library (Mercy Information Document).
- Now, Open OneDrive. To Open OneDrive, Click on the App Launcher which will display the list of Microsoft 365 Apps, there Select OneDrive as shown below:

- It will open OneDrive, we can see pinned documents (Mercy Information Documents) under the Quick Access section in the left navigation of OneDrive, and a document will be displayed as we can see in the below image:

- Recently added documents will be pinned under the Quick Access section in OneDrive.
NOTE:
Pin to Quick access feature is only available to SharePoint Document Library, but not available in SharePoint Lists.

Add Pin to Top action to SharePoint Online Document Library Files
Likewise, here we will go through the process of how to add Pin to Top action to SharePoint Online document library files. For this follow the below-mentioned steps such as:
This feature is similar to Pin to Quick access, but it is only available to document library files. When we pin a file or folder within a document library, it creates a shortcut on top of the library to that file or folder.
- Go to the SharePoint Online document library where we need to add Pin to top action to document library files. Here we are taking one of our lists i.e.,
- (EX: https://.sharepoint.com/sites/MercyHospitals/MercyInformationDocuments/Forms/AllItems.aspx).
- Select the document (Careers and Jobs of Mercy) -> Click on three ellipses(…) and then -> Click on the Pin to top option from the dialogue box as shown below figure:

- Once it is done, now we can see the below screenshot that shows pinned document library file at the top of the library:

- If we wanted to change the order of pins or remove them altogether, Select the pinned document -> Click ECB menu(…) -> Select Edit pin from options -> Select Move left or Unpin from the edit pin options.
- Here, we are selecting the Move left Option as per our requirements.

Pin to top in SharePoint Document Library – Few Points to Remember
While using Pin to top in SharePoint Online document library, remember the below points :
- It is not personal – it is for all team members of the site.
- It only displays only in “selected view” or “per folder.”
- It won’t be displayed for another view in a document library or else navigate inside one of the folders, we won’t be able to see the pinned documents or folders.
- The pin to top is unique to each view or folder.

- Now the SharePoint document library will be pinned to OneDrive.
- Next, Open Onedrive, Click App Launcher on the top left side of the SharePoint site page -> Select OneDrive from the Apps section.
- In One Drive Page, if the pinned file is not found in Quick Access -> Click more places and select the document library.
- We can Unpin from the left navigation of Quick Access and also from the option Unpin from Quick access displaying documents page as shown in the below image.

This feature (Add Shortcut to OneDrive) is similar to Pin to Quick access, but the only difference is the pinned files /documents will be stored in the My Files section of OneDrive.
- Go to the SharePoint Online document library which needs to add a shortcut to SharePoint one drive. Here we are taking one of our lists i.e.,
- (EX: https://.sharepoint.com/sites/MercyHospitals/ProjectDocuments/Forms/AllItems.aspx).
- In the document library, click on Add Shortcut to OneDrive in the command bar which is above all files as shown in the figure:

- Then, a dialogue box will display providing the information that (Added 1 shortcut to My files in OneDrive) as we can see from the below screenshot:

- Next, Open Onedrive, Click App Launcher on the top left side of the SharePoint site page -> Select OneDrive from the Apps section.
- Click on the My Files, it will open all the active files under My Files -> Select added document i.e, (Project Document) -> The items in the project Documents will be displayed in the opened window like below:

- We can also remove documents from a shortcut of OneDrive, for this follow the process -> Select the pinned document under My files of Onedrive -> Click on three ellipses(…) -> Select Remove from the listed options as shown below:
