The person or group column can be customized to allow multiple selections, include or exclude groups of people, and specify certain information to display in the SharePoint Online list or library.
Here, I have a SharePoint Online list as “Employee Details” and where I have added a Person column like the one below:

Here, we will see how to add a person column to a SharePoint Online list. To do so, follow the below steps:
- Open the SharePoint list where we can add a person or group column. Then click on the + Add column tab, select the Person column, and click on the Next button.

- Then, in the Create a column window, you can get all properties. Such as:
- Name: You should provide a column name (“Employee Name”).
- Description: It is an optional property.
- Type: By default, it shows as Person or Group field.
- Allow Selection of Groups: If you want to select Groups, then select this option.
- Show profile Photos: You can also enable this slider to show people or group profile photos.
- Allow multiple selections: Once, enable this option we can add multiple persons or groups in the Person column.
- Enforce unique values: By using this option, we can able to select one person or group at one time only.
- Add to all content types: If you want to add all content types, then enable this slider.
- Next, click on the Save button as shown below:

- Once, you can add a person column in the SharePoint list, it will appear to look like below:

Here, you can see the most important properties of a Person or Group column. Such as:
- Allow Selection of Groups: We can use this option to add groups in a Person column and how it will appear in the list view like below:

- Show profile Photos: If you want to show people’s profile photos, then enable this slider. And, see how it will appear.

- Allow multiple selections: While using this option, we can able to add multiple persons or groups in a person column.

- Enforce unique values: Whenever we use this option to add one person or group multiple times, then we get an error like “This value already exists in the list“.

Set a default value to a person column in a SharePoint list
By default, SharePoint does not allow us to set a default value to a person field in a SharePoint list or library. But we can use Power Apps to set a default value to a person column in the SharePoint list.
